The farm

The farm’s main concern is wine-growing: Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Classico Frimaio e Riserva, La Sassaia, Bianco Romita, Vin Santo, Grappa.

The vineyards of Poggio Romita extend over 45 hectares of hillsides with mainly eastern or western exposure, at 330m a.s.l..

The soil is mainly clayey with a high stone content, and is very suitable for vine growing even in dry periods, when the plants resist well.

In recent years all the vineyards have been renewed, replacing the old vines with new ones in accordance with modern growing criteria. The cordon-trained, spur-pruned system is used with a density of about 4500-4600 plants per hectare.

As well as classic varieties of the Chianti area, French clones are also grown such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Some of the vineyards belonging to Poggio Romita are situated in the Chianti Classico territory, in the municipality of San Donato in Poggio a few kilometres from the farm. These are used to make the famous Chianti Classico Frimaio and in special years, the Frimaio Riserva.
